Description
The combined PIV Cannulation, Intra Osseous and Blood Collection course is a full-day hands-on educational activity designed to give participants the knowledge and skills required to perform these procedures. Ample practice is provided using cannulae, blood collection systems, bone injection units with realistic training arms and legs.
Course content
- Anatomy of the upper limb identifying vessels indicated for cannulation and blood taking
- Demonstration and practice of each procedure into a life-like cannulation arm and I/O leg using aseptic technique.
- Choice of the type and size of access systems, site choice and patient preparation.
- Clinical risks & complications
- Assessment is both practical and written with a multiple-choice questionnaire.
Prerequisites
Recent employment in a clinical environment.
Suitable for
Doctors, nurses and allied health professionals requiring up-skilling in peripheral intra-venous cannulation, intra osseous access and blood taking.
Continuing Education
- NMBA: 12 CPD points for nurses & midwives. (5 hours e-learning and assessment, 7 hours workshop)
- Paramedicine Board: 12 CPD Points for Paramedics. (5 hours e-learning and assessment, 7 hours workshop)
